With the change in the power equation at the center, the Congress-led government in Lumbini province is in crisis. Now there is a government in Lumbini under the leadership of Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary of Congress. Out of the 10 parties in the state assembly, he was supported by all the parties except UML and RPP. Chaudhary became the chief minister with the support of 53 state assembly members.

UML-Maoist alliance awaiting Centre's decision on Lumbini

According to the new alliance with UML, Maoists, Raswapa and Jaspa at the center, it is seen that one vote will not be enough to form the government in Lumbini. The number of MPs has increased to 86 after the suspension of Kapilvastu MP Janki Prasad Yadav, who was elected from RPPA out of 87 members in the state assembly. 44 MPs are needed for the required majority.

In Lumbini, there are 43 people in the alliance, with 29 from the UML, 11 from the Maoists and 3 from the Janata Samajwadi Party. There are 27 MPs from the Congress, 4 MPs from the Civil Liberties Party, 3 MPs each from RPP, Democratic Socialist Party and Janmat, 1 MP from the Rajmo, 1 MP from the Integrated Socialist Party and 1 MP from the Independent Party.

In this situation, the small parties including Citizen Liberation Party, RPRPA, LOSPA, Janmat, Rajmo, CPN-S seem to be decisive for the formation of Lumbini province government. There is a legal provision that if there is a tie, the Speaker will have the casting vote. Speaker Tularam Gharti Magar was elected from Maoist center Palpa 2(2). RPP's Munuka Khand KC is the deputy speaker.

The new coalition parties UML-Maoist and Jaspa are waiting for the decision of the Centre. UML Lumbini Parliamentary Party Leader Leela Giri said that after the decision of who will be the leader of Lumbini province will be decided at the center, they will proceed with the formation of the government. He said that the process will move forward after the parties in the current government in Lumbini withdraw their support. "After the change of government at the center, the chief minister should resign on the basis of ethics," said Giri, "he should pave the way." Even if one member of parliament is insufficient to form the government, the RPP claimed to support the new government. However, RPP is not participating in the new coalition of the center.

The leader of the Maoist parliamentary party, Jokh Bahadur Mahara, said that discussions are going on to form the government. He said that the majority will be reached as discussions are being held with the smaller parties later. He said that the next chief minister Maoist should get the

. Before this, Leela Giri was the Chief Minister and Mahara was the Finance Minister in the alliance with the UML. He said that since the Chief Minister had left the previous alliance with the UML and the Congress, there is a stand that the Maoists should get the leadership in the new alliance. If Giri and Maoists get the leadership of UML in Lumbini, there is a strong possibility that Mahara will become the Chief Minister.
