Vaccination of 1.6 million sheep and goats

PPR is a cholera-like disease for sheep. As part of the week-long program, 280,000 sheep and goats will be vaccinated in Makwanpur, said Sujan Kandel, spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. There are 3 lakh 13 thousand goats and 2 thousand 500 sheep in Makwanpur. According to Kandel, the spokesperson, the sheep and goats that have been vaccinated once have immunity for 3 years, and the remaining sheep and goats will be vaccinated on priority.

Ministry Secretary Rajendra Koirala informed that a program has been organized to spread public awareness to reduce PPR disease throughout the province through vaccination campaign against PPR. The program was launched simultaneously from all the 13 districts of the state is .

For this, it is stated that vaccination centers and vaccinators have been appointed in coordination with the local level for the vaccination campaign by the concerned animal service office. Vaccination will be done from 1,200 vaccination centers across the province and 418 vaccinators have been deployed. There are 19 vaccination centers in Makwanpur. There are 63 vaccinators assigned to that vaccination center.

The ministry is vaccinating 15 lakh 94 thousand sheep and goats across the province. The highest number of 280,000 sheep and goats will be vaccinated in Dhading district and the least in Bhaktapur, 12,000 sheep. Vaccination campaign will be conducted till February 22.
