President of Nepal Bar Association Gopal Krishna Ghimire has said that there is a need for free legal services in the field of HIV infected people. In a program held by Recovering Nepal and UNDP in Kathmandu on Thursday, Senior Advocate Ghimir said that pro-vono services are very necessary in the field of HIV infected people.
In the one-day program with the participation of legal practitioners from all seven provinces, there was a discussion on how free legal counseling can be given in the field of HIV infected people.
Chairman Ghimire asked the legal professionals to take pro-vono service together during the service. Pro-vono service has been used especially for those who do not have money and cannot hire a lawyer. It has become necessary to use it in Nepal as well," he said. "Law business has become like the culture of the Nepali Bar. Although legal professionals are social engineers, it has not been embraced as free.'
He said that even in Nepal, pro-vono service providers are gradually getting organized. "There are more than 21,000 legal practitioners in the country, but 65 legal practitioners have been listed in government courts as advocates for those who have no money and cannot hire a lawyer," he said.
Some people find it very difficult to raise money for legal services due to the fact that they are shunned by the HIV-infected society and family. He emphasized that they need free legal assistance.
