The government has announced that the next ten years will be celebrated as the Information Technology Decade in the budget of the next financial year.

A task force will be formed to prepare an annual action plan for the IT decade

Speaking at a program organized by Economic Journalists Society (SEJON) on Tuesday, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said that she will create a roadmap with a clear vision to make the IT decade a success.

Minister Sharma said that since the budget has announced information technology as the driver of the economy, it is their responsibility to make the next action plan according to the directions and priorities specified by it . "For this, it is necessary to make a detailed plan with an action plan for every year," she said. In the

budget, it is said that the next year will be carried forward as the departure year of the information technology decade. In addition, the government has set the goal of establishing information technology as a pillar of the economy, developing Nepal as an information technology hub, and creating 5 lakh direct and 10 lakh indirect jobs in the information technology sector in 10 years with the export of services worth 30 billion rupees.

Minister Sharma gave information about what initiatives will be taken annually by which agencies to make the IT decade successful, and whose role will be included in the action plan.

'Information technology programs are scattered in different bodies, if we don't break it down and separate the content of who will do what, effective implementation is not possible,' she said. In the break program, Minister Sharma admitted that there is no government-level study on the manpower of the information technology sector in Nepal and indicated that work will be done on this too. Although some studies show that there are about 100,000 people involved in the export of information technology services as freelancers, he said that the government does not have the official data.

"We need government data about the latest situation in this area," he said.

She said that the Ministry of Communication has been working on the creation of policies and laws in the field of information technology and the creation of a digital foundation determined by the Digital Nepal Framework 2076. Mentioning that there is policy ambiguity in some matters, she also opined that many old laws are an obstacle, especially in the telecommunication sector.
