While the progress of the overall project is low, the tunnel construction work on the Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhesh expressway (fast track) has reached its final stage. According to the project, only 1,529 meters of the 6,415 meters tunnel remains to be dug.

According to the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the project, 6 tunnels will be constructed. According to the project, digging of Mahadevtar, Lendanda and Dhedre tunnels is going on in full swing. Rathi Vikas Pokharel, head and assistant of the project, said that the "break through" of Lendanda and Dhedre tunnels will be done by the coming June.

The total distance of Lendanda tunnel is 1 thousand 430 meters, so far 1 thousand 350 meters of mining has been completed. Now only 80 meters remain to be dug . Similarly, out of 1,630 meters of Dhedre tunnel, 1,398 meters of tunnel mining has been completed. Now only 232 meters remain to be dug .

So far 2 thousand 138 meters have been mined and only 1 thousand 217 meters are left to be mined. All these three tunnels are included in package number 1 and 2 . Defense Minister Hari Prasad Upreti said that work is being done at a fast pace to break through the tunnel within two months. According to the project, the 2 thousand 250 meters Chandram Bhir tunnel, 1 km Devichaur and 0.39 km Sisautar tunnels, which were added later, have gone into the construction process.

Nepali Army's construction management of the fast track has been managed for 64.477 km out of 70.977 km. The land dispute of Khokna section has not been resolved yet. As a result, contract management work has not been done in the 6.5 km area of ​​this section . This section is placed in the last 11 number package . To complete the project within the specified time Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma said that the work is underway. The deadline of the project is till the end of March 2018. In this project, out of 89 bridges, 85 bridges are under contract. Contracts for 4 bridges in Khokna section have not been managed. Among the 89 bridges, the construction of 5 bridges under package number 3 has been completed.

Chief of Army Staff Sharma claimed that the work of the project started only after the DPR was approved by the government in 076 October. So far its physical progress is 33.20 percent. The initial cost estimate of this project is 1 trillion 75 billion rupees. After revision, it has now reached 2 trillion 11 billion 93 crore rupees. 60 billion 44 crore rupees have been spent so far.
