On Monday, the police seized chickens being brought illegally from India on bicycles at Hawari Chowk in Paroha Municipality-6. After seeing the police, the people bringing the chicken left their bicycles and ran away.
District Police Spokesperson DSP Eliza Giri informed that a police patrol team deployed from Ela police office, Kopwapiparia, seized 60 broiler chickens brought from India on 4 bicycles at Hawari Chowk.
'The dead chicken was sent to the local gentleman, public representative, We have destroyed it in the premises of the district police in the presence of media workers,' she said, 'we will find out the gang that brings chicken illegally from India.'
The police say that the market value of the said chicken is 38 thousand. According to security personnel, since the price of chicken in India is lower than that of Nepal, they use Chorbato to bring it from abroad. Taking advantage of the open border, small traders have been bringing chickens from India on bicycles and selling them in the border markets.
DSP Giri has claimed that they are cracking down on the illegal spread of similar goods from India.
