Ganesh Karki, President of Independent Energy Producers Association, Nepal (IPPAN), has requested to increase the investment of banks and financial institutions in the energy sector to 20 percent. Addressing the 22nd general meeting of Ipan, he asked for a mandatory arrangement to increase the rate of 2 percent every year and reach 20 percent in 10 years.
Currently, only 10 percent of the total investment of banks and financial institutions can be invested in the energy sector. "The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has made a projection of 61 billion needed for the government's target of producing 28,500 megawatts within the year 2035," he said - break 100 percent income tax exemption for the first 10 years and 50 percent income tax exemption for the next 5 years has been arranged for projects that produce electricity until the financial year 2082/083. He demanded that the income tax exemption should be given to projects that produce electricity up to the financial year 2092/093.
Till the last financial year, he said that the cost of energy projects has increased greatly, but the machinery equipment used in the maintenance of power projects was imported by paying only 1 percent customs duty in the current financial year.
