Education, Science and Technology Minister Sumana Shrestha has said that until the end of party politicization in schools and universities, there can be no improvement in education. Minister Shrestha has made it clear that teachers and school staff will be removed from their posts if they are found to be members of the executive committee of a political party.
Minister Shrestha said that she has started working to end party politics from schools and universities in the meeting of the Federalism and National Concerns Committee of the National Assembly.
She said that section 16 of the Education Act, 2028 states that if a teacher or employee is found to be a member of the executive committee of a political party, the teacher or employee will be removed from the position and said that she has already proceeded with the work according to the same Act. She said that she is confident that the government's programs will be successful if party politicization is removed from the education sector.
'As long as party politics dominates everywhere, it will never improve . That is why I called yesterday, it is clearly written in subsection 5 of section 16 (e) of our Education Act, 2028, that if a teacher or employee is found to be a member of the executive committee of a political party, the teacher or employee will be removed from office . It is clearly written in Section 14 Sub-Section 2 Section (c) of the Political Party Act, 2073,' Minister Shrestha said while clarifying the legal basis, 'I have started working for this by making a call. This includes higher education and school education as well. For that, what level of law is the action to be taken? I will make a floor chart of it and give it to everyone soon . Coordination talks with relevant agencies have already started. If party politicization can be removed from the education sector, then any program we take will be successful . Even people who do bad things are under political pressure, so no matter how good they do, they are not satisfied.'
Minister Shrestha said that there is commercialization of education in the country. He said that the corruption in the education sector cannot be removed until the trade in education is stopped. She informed that the Ministry has formed a working group for the control and regulation of business in education.
'We have commercialized our country's education too much . This is also reflected in our overseas affiliated colleges . Providing private higher education services, their competition in the community is not only private and private, they are now also from foreign permission . The kind of business that is being done in education should be controlled. As much as there is a gap in the regulation, we will fill it . We have formed a working group for this too,' she said, 'Now it is not enough to say free education, it should be free and quality education. We cannot succeed unless we focus on quality . Due to excessive politicization, the result has not been achieved . A lot of vacancies in teachers will have to be filled . But the result is not as expected by the recruitment.
Minister Shrestha said that due to the politicization of education, the results are not as good as they should be from the public schools. She said that the posts of teachers are yet to be filled.
