Wilma Rudolph, a famous American runner, was born on this day (June 23) in 1940. He was born in a poor family in Tennessee, USA.
Rudolph won three gold medals in track and field at the 1960 Rome Olympics. Rudolph won gold in the 100m, 200m and four times 100m relay events.
Along with this, she also became the first American athlete to win three gold medals in track and field in a single Olympics. Rudolph was inducted into the US Olympic Hall of Fame in 1983. He died of brain cancer on November 12, 1994 at the age of 54.
