Two climbers have gone missing while climbing Mount Everest, the world's highest peak. One Nepali and one British citizen are missing.
Director of Tourism Department Kali Bahadur Bhujel informed Rasas that 21-year-old Pas Tenji Sherpa and 40-year-old British citizen Daniel Paul Peterson of Sankhuwasabha's Makalu Rural Municipality-2 went missing while returning from Mount Everest on Tuesday. He said that both of them disappeared after they slipped near the 'South Summit' located at an altitude of 8,750 meters while returning to the peak. It is mentioned in the statement released today by Narayan Prasad Khanal, Branch Officer of Tourism Department that both of them successfully climbed Mount Everest on the morning of May 8th.
Sherpa and Peterson had taken permission from the department to climb Mt. According to the tourism department's liaison office at the base camp, both of them left the base camp to climb the Everest last Friday through the second base camp when the weather was favorable.
The Department of Tourism has informed through a statement that their company has mobilized 6 experienced mountain guides to search for the two missing persons. The department has also requested through a statement to assist in the search for the missing persons.
