Identity activists have demonstrated in Kathmandu demanding the cancellation of the name of Koshi province. The Province 1 Re-naming Joint Struggle Committee held a meeting with a protest in Tinkune on Thursday, saying that the name of Province 1 has been erased by the identity of the tribal people.
The demonstration was organized by the Federation of Nepal Tribal Tribes, Province 1 Re-nomination Joint Struggle Committee and other organizations. During the
demonstration, the protestors with black flags chanted slogans such as 'Beware of anti-identity', 'Abolish Koshi province', 'Rename all provinces based on identity', 'Re-demarcate federalism'. They said that the erasure of the identity of Province 1 took place on 17th of February last year and they celebrated this day as a black day.
Speaking at the meeting, the chairman of the tribal federation, Gelje Lama Sherpa, claimed that the re-nomination of province number 1 will be done.
