Finance Minister Varshman Pun has informed that there is a plan to increase equalization subsidy to 100 percent in the next financial year to local levels that do not have their own resources.
Speaking in the National Assembly on Thursday, Finance Minister Pun said that although the government has been giving 93 percent equalization subsidy to local levels that do not have their own resources, they are trying to make it 100 percent from next year. He said that the federal government is providing equalization grants to the local level to make budget estimation and spending easier. .
He mentioned that even now, many local levels do not have their own resources, but they have to spend on employee salaries, allowances, education, and health.
He said that according to the formula given by the Natural Resources and Finance Commission, there is a plan to send equalization grants to local levels and to send conditional or special grants only to those local levels that need them in order to develop their capacity. He said that there is a plan to reduce the conditional amount to the local level as much as possible and to increase the equalization grant.
