Judge Giri jailed for 7 years and fined 3 lakhs in rape case

Kathmandu District Court Judge Durga Bahadur Bhusal's bench on Monday decided to sentence Giri to 7 years in prison and a fine of three lakhs in the marital rape case, Ramu Sharma informed. On May 13, Judge Bhusal's bench convicted Giri in the rape case. Monday was fixed for sentencing.

His wife Aarti Rawal filed a case against Giri on May 19 of last year when he was a judge in Kapilvastu District Court. After the case proceeded, the suspended Giri was sent to prison by the order of the Supreme Court dated 21st of Chait . He had surrendered in the District Court on 3rd Baisakh.

Judge's wife Rawal had been involved in street struggle for a long time demanding justice. Alleging that the case of rape by her husband was delayed, she went on a fast for two months from June 10, 2080. She started the second phase of fasting from 1st January 080 . They are currently on hunger strike saying that the government should provide relief assistance to the victims including weed, shelter, cotton and livelihood.

On Monday, Srestedar Sharma said that compensation will be paid to the victim from the fixed fine amount during the sentencing.
