On this day (April 11) in 1979, the Tanzanian army occupied Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Ugandan dictator Idi Amin was forced to flee the country after the Tanzanian army took control of Kampala. After that he took refuge in Libya.

On this day in 1979: Amin's brutal rule ends

Idi Amin is the most brutal ruler in the world. Amin, known as the 'mad man of Africa', loved to eat human flesh. He used to prey especially on beautiful girls. Human severed heads were found in his fridge.

Amin, who became the president of Uganda from 1971 to 1979, killed more than 600,000 people during his reign. In 1979, Uganda's anti-Amin forces overthrew Amin with the help of Tanzania. With that, his brutal rule in Uganda ended. Amin fled to Libya after being overthrown and lived there until 1980. After that, Amin reached Saudi Arabia and died on August 16, 2003.
