Soon after that, the Ukrainian parliament removed Yanukovych from office and passed an impeachment motion against him. Since then, Yanukovych has been living in Russia . After he was deposed, the Russian army succeeded in annexing Crimea from Ukraine.

After Yanukovych, Petro Poroshenko became the President of Ukraine . In the last election held in 2019, comedian Volodymyr was elected president of Zelenskyi. Russia began attacking Ukraine on February 24, 2022, after the Western diplomat Zelensky started preparing to make Ukraine a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
