The current scenario of tourism

Nepal's tourism sector had to deal with two major challenges and problems in the last decade. Due to the earthquake of 2072 and the covid-19, there was a big shock in the tourism sector.

But recently, the tourism industry has entered the stage of improvement and adaptation, avoiding the challenges caused by Covid. In the last two years, the movement of foreign tourists has clearly shown signs of improvement.

Tourism is a sector of high potential for the development of the country's economy. Nepal is a major tourist destination in the world from the natural, cultural, adventure, historical and religious point of view. The constitution of Nepal has adopted the policy of developing this area as the main base of the economy by protecting, promoting and diversifying such places and heritage.

Lately, diversification has started in the tourism sector as well. Efforts to promote sustainable tourism have been initiated. The tourism sector of Nepal is making a significant contribution to earning foreign exchange and revenue. The data of Nepal Tourism Board shows that 1 million 14 thousand 876 foreign tourists visited Nepal in 2023 alone. From January to July, 534 thousand 204 foreign tourists entered Nepal by air only. It also seems that the attraction of foreign tourists in Nepal is increasing. Nepal's 'Lifetime Experience' branding is also having a great meaning in the movement of tourism.

The Government of Nepal has also initiated various programs related to 'Visit Nepal' for the development and promotion of the tourism sector. Lately, Nepal government has been trying to attract foreign tourists by doing programs like 'Nepal Visit Decade', 'Special Tourism Year' etc.
