On this day (April 6) in 1917, the United States formally announced its entry into World War I. The United States formally entered World War I against Germany after the US Congress voted in favor of war on April 6.
Although World War I began in 1914, the United States did not participate directly in the war for three years. However, after Germany continuously damaged American cargo ships, American public opinion was in favor of war against Germany. In World War I, which lasted for about four years and ended on November 11, 1918, more than two million American soldiers were deployed on the battlefields of Western Europe. More than 50,000 people died during that time.
