Country does not develop through remittances: Labor Minister Aryal

Minister Aryal said in Thursday's meeting of the Industry and Commerce and Labor and Consumer Welfare Committee of the House of Representatives that the remittance will come and the Ministry of Labor is not happy. While answering the questions raised by the MPs, Minister Aryal said, 'The question came from the MPs that the ministry is enjoying remittances, it is not so. I do not believe that the country will develop through remittances.'

Minister Aryal's intention was to create employment and labor opportunities in Nepal. He said that the perception that Nepal's economy will be better through remittances should be changed. 'If we say that our economy is doing great due to remittances, which decade, which century are we talking about?', he said, 'Now we are saying that 12-14 trillion paise has come and it is great, but if we look at the remittances based on the laborers who have gone from Nepal, it is half . Where the other half of the money has gone is a sensitive issue. We will have to work on that too.'

Parliamentarians questioned whether the amount to come from the remittance is coming through an illegal route through the Hundi . Minister Aryal's answer was that the ministry is studying the matter.

Minister Aryal said that workers from Nepal cannot be stopped from going abroad and foreign workers cannot be stopped from coming to work in Nepal in the current situation. "In the era of globalization, we cannot stop Americans and Japanese from coming and working in our country." Our citizens can also go out and work, but we will stop only those who are forced to do so,' he said.

Minister Aryal informed that even though Nepal has arranged free visa free tickets with various labor destination countries, it is not being implemented. He said that only 4 percent of the workers are going to the labor destination country on 'free visa, free ticket' and the remaining 96 percent of the workers are going by paying money. A study has shown that only 4 percent of workers went to 'Free Visa Free Ticket'. It was found that 96 percent of the workers went for free . We want to be sensitive about those 96 percent of workers . We are working on this matter and it is a matter of importance to the Ministry,' Minister Aryal said .

Likewise, Minister Aryal expressed his displeasure saying that the funds of the Prime Minister's Employment Program could not be utilized. He said that the justification of spending on the Prime Minister's Employment Program has not been confirmed and he said that the modality should be changed and spent on productive and skilled sectors.
