Purushottam Silwal, a young chess player, has become the champion by scoring 7.5 points in the National Intelligence 'B' Qualifying Tournament.

60 national players competed in the tournament held at Chundevi, Surya Vinayak, Bhaktapur. Kavre's candidate master Milan Lama, East Nepal champion Keshab Shrestha and Lalitpur's Suroj Maharjan took the joint second place with 6.5 points. They have also been selected along with Purushottam. Similarly, Raj Karki, Prakashchandra Nepal, Rajan Subedi, Premkrishna Maharjan and Arena IM Sushrut Dahal managed to qualify for the national competition by collecting 6 points.

Sushil Chaudhary and CM Purushottam Chaulagai are among the two alternate players. In September, the Chess Olympiad will be held in Hungary under the auspices of the World Intelligence Federation. The selection of 5 players from Nepal to participate in the Chess Olympiad will be held on May 10 from the national tournament in the capital. Through this competition, women and open 9-9 players will compete again with the current Nepal first, second and third players to get a ticket to the Olympiad.

Bhaktapur District Intellectual Association has conducted selection competition under the organization of Nepal Intellectual Federation. Coordinator Niranjan Prajapati has said that every year National 'B' will be held by Bhaktapur.
