Representatives of four countries have gathered and discussed clean water in the Himalayan region. A one-day workshop on Himalayan fresh water held at the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ISIMOD) has been completed. Representatives from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and India participated in the program.

Discussion on clean water in the Himalayan region

The first workshop was held in India in 2023 and the third workshop is planned to be held in Bhutan in 2025. The central theme of the workshop was service and risk assessment. The workshop was organized by Nepal Engineering College (NEC) in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-Roorkee). In the workshop, the former principal of NEC Prof. Dr. Harikrishna Shrestha, current Acting Principal Associate Professor Durga Prasad Bhandari and Director of NEC Center for Post Graduate Studies Prof. Dr. Thusitha Chandni Shahi participated.

Pvt. Dr. Bishnu Prasad Pandey gave a keynote presentation focusing on the potential impact of climate change on increasing stress on fresh water due to reduced availability, increased uncertainty and impact on design floods. The workshop was organized under the project Regional Cooperation for Freshwater Ecosystem Services in Himalayas (REFRESH): Understanding Monsoon Variability and Effects of Compound Extremes. The coordinator of the

workshop was Prateeksingh Thakuri, Assistant Professor of Post Graduate Study Center of Nepal Engineering College.
