The main opposition Nepali Congress has questioned Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane for his involvement in cooperative fraud cases in various districts of the country. He questioned how the police under the Home Minister would conduct a fair investigation saying that there was a government report that the cooperative was involved in fraud.
In Wednesday's meeting of the House of Representatives, Congress whip Sushila Thing said that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal should answer about the responsibility given to Lamichhane as Home Minister. "How did you get the clean chit ministers who were involved in the co-operative fraud, Pokhara Municipal Corporation has given a report and brought them as home ministers who are under investigation," she said, "Will the police of the Nepal government salute the home minister and find him guilty in his case in the investigation or not? Will the Prime Minister give this answer?'
The Congress has said that Lamichhane was brought in as Home Minister to decide his own case.
Similarly, the Congress has raised questions about the connection of the then Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun's secretariat with gold smuggling. The Congress demands that the investigation of the matter should be conducted independently. It has been said that the Secretariat of the then Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun was connected to gold smuggling. Don't assume that the next Houses will run so easily until this issue is resolved,' said Speaker Thing.
