Gandaki's Energy Minister Devkota sacked as MP

Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital read out the information that the office of the Maoist Center Gandaki Provincial Parliamentary Party expelled Devkota as a member of the Provincial Assembly and left the party. Hari Bahadur Chuman, the leader of the Maoist parliamentary party, submitted a letter to the parliament secretariat on Friday with the information about the action against Devkota.

In the second meeting of the Provincial Assembly on Friday, the Speaker informed the Parliament that he had received a notice from the office of the Maoist Center Gandaki Provincial Parliamentary Party that he had left the party under Section 34 of the Political Party Act, 2073. In the Parliament, he said, 'According to the information received, under Section 49 of the Political Parties Act 2073 in the Provincial Assembly Elections held in 2079, the single election symbol of the Maoist center is the sickle-hammer inside the circle and the official letter of the candidate signed by the party president Pushpa Kamal Dahal and ran in the election. Since Devkota was elected and was a member of the Maoist Center Gandaki Provincial Assembly Parliamentary Party, the notice was received in accordance with Section 34 of the Political Parties Act, 2073 and that Phanindra Devkota, a member of the Provincial Assembly, was expelled from the position of Provincial Assembly member and left the party. I inform the Assembly according to the legal provisions including Section 35 of the same Act and Rule 2070 of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly Rules 2080.'

The Maoist Center had issued a 'whip' on May 28 not to pass a vote of confidence in favor of Chief Minister Pandey. After she violated the 'whip', Maoist chief whip Sushila Sinkha recommended action. Devkota had been saying that even though he contested on the election symbol of the Maoist Center, as he was a worker of the Nepal Samajwadi Party, he would not be whipped and the Maoists would not be able to take action. He argues that he is an MP of NESP on the website of the State Assembly Secretariat and the Election Commission. He said that he voted for Chief Minister Pandey according to the decision of the central and state committees of NESP . He was appointed minister on May 29 after voting for Chief Minister Pandey.
