Maoist vice president Krishna Bahadur Mahara arrested

Only on Sunday, Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane instructed the police to proceed with the investigation process on all those involved in the gold smuggling case.

Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane instructed the CIB of the police to take action against the accused according to the report submitted by the commission formed to investigate gold smuggling. On Sunday, Lamichhane instructed Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Inspector General of Police Vasant Kunwar and CIB Chief AIG Shyam Gyawali to take immediate action after studying the report of the Commission of Inquiry.

Former Speaker and Maoist Vice President Krishna Bahadur Mahara, his son Rahul, former Vice President's son Dipesh Pun and foreign expert Jeevan Gurung were involved in the smuggling of 61 kg of gold that was hidden in Brak Su on July 2 and 9 kg of gold that was brought in electronic cigarettes (VEP) in December 2079. After continuous news was published in the media saying that the police had given them immunity, there was a demand in the parliament to investigate the truth.

Rahul, the son of former speaker Mahara, has been arrested and investigated by the CIB on August 13. It has been confirmed through the government investigation that Mahara's son had frequent telephone conversations with the Chinese gang involved in gold smuggling. It has been revealed that the father and son made 256 phone calls to the Chinese smuggler and his group.
