After the earthquake, the import of electric vehicles is increasing as business transactions become easier through Tatopani, the main trade port with China. Due to the increasing use of electric vehicles in the country, imports from China have also increased. The import of private and public vehicles has increased in the current year compared to last year. The import of vehicles has had a positive impact on revenue collection.

Import of 1260 electric vehicles

In the 9 months of the current year, 1260 electric vehicles worth 3.5 billion have been imported from Tatopani. Only 260 vehicles were imported last year. Among them were 12 petrol vehicles and 4 lorries. During this period of the current year, 1 thousand more electric vehicles have been imported than last year. The import of electric vehicles such as microbuses, minibuses, jeeps, vans, cars, etc., which are operated by electricity, has increased through this point. During this period of the current year, 1 billion 25 crore 31 lakh 16 thousand rupees have been collected from the import of electric and petrol vehicles. About 2.2 million revenue has been collected from petrol vehicles. During this period of the current year, except for one petrol vehicle, all the vehicles are electric.

According to Tatopani Customs Officer and Information Officer Surya Kafle, vehicles worth 3.49 billion 3766000 have been imported till the end of March this year. The customs tariff has been established according to the value of purchase and importation to customs. Last year, vehicles worth 1.67 billion 4.4 million were imported. 50.1 million revenue was collected from it. In the current year, the revenue collection is 1 billion more than last year. The market price of imported vehicles has been fixed at Rs 40 to Rs 80 lakh. According to customs, cars named AKG, Series, Omoda, Dipal and microbus named DFSK have been imported.

Target completed three months before

The revenue collection target has been met with three months left to the end of the financial year for the import of vehicles. Customs officer Kafle said that the revenue target of 8 billion 42 million for the current year has been met. While the situation of revenue collection from customs points across the country is disappointing, Tatopani is going to exceed the target.

According to the Customs Department, customs revenue has been collected so far only 49 percent of the annual target. After the earthquake, it was completely closed for four consecutive years and partially operated from 2076. Compared to Rasuwa, traders are attracted to Tatopani due to the reduction in shipping charges, time savings from the border to Kathmandu, and less time required to bring goods from various cities in China to the border.

After the closure of the crossing which used to be crowded around the clock, the pressure in Rasuwa increased. After the full opening of imports from Tatopani, business activity has increased for almost a year. Due to earthquakes, floods, covid and Chinese barriers, business transactions have become difficult, and now the import of commercial goods is increasing.

According to Tatopani customs chief Dayanand KC, the Chinese side has been trying to facilitate trade through the border lately. Even now, goods brought by Chinese containers from Khasa region of Tibet are being unloaded across Miteri Bridge. The Nepalese container has been brought to Miteri Bridge. Traders have been saying that it will be more convenient if there is an arrangement for Nepali containers to go directly to Khasa.
