The 'ferry' of Satighat on the Arun river, which connects North Dingla of Bhojpur and Tumlingtar of Sankhuwasabha, has started operating from Thursday. It was closed again on the 16th of Chait last March when there was a problem with the wire due to the broken pulley.
Mohan Chapagain, executive officer of Shadanand Municipality, said that the technical team from Shadanand Municipality and Kathmandu repaired it and brought it back into operation. After the repair of the ferry, the long and short distance vehicles running from the northern region have been operating since Thursday afternoon.
As the flow of water in the river is diverted towards Shadannad municipality, sand has piled up a lot towards Satighat. Executive Officer Chapagain said that until the sand is removed with an excavator, there will be some difficulties in transporting large cargo vehicles. After it was decided that a motorized bridge would not be built at Lamchuwa Ghat, it was brought back into operation at Satighat three years ago for the convenience of the people of the northern region of Bhojpur. More than 100 large and small vehicles travel daily from
ferry.
