Preparations have been made to release Maoist vice-president and former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who was arrested in the gold smuggling case, on bail.

Mahara will be released on remand after the statement is finished at the district attorney's office in Kathmandu on Friday.

According to a senior officer of the Nepal Police, Mahara is about to be released in Rohbar of the public prosecutor's office. The officer said that the investigation against Mahara will continue in the said case.

Mahara was arrested by the police on Monday from Kapilvastu. He was arrested by Ruppandehi police while passing through Bhairawa airport to go to Rolpa from Kathmandu. Due to his poor health, he is being treated at Narvik Hospital.
