A mixture of old car tires, broken utensils, drums can cause dengue disease to spread. Aedes mosquitoes that spread dengue lay their eggs in frozen clean water.

Dengue can be caused by standing water in pots and pans

In a study conducted last year, Aedes mosquito larvae were found in frozen water in various objects ranging from old vehicle tires to drums, tanks, jars, buckets, pots and broken items. Information about this was given in a program organized by Public Health Promotion Branch of Bharatpur Metropolitan City on Sunday.

Hetaunda-based Insect Disease Control and Research Center last year conducted an accounting of the possible places where Aedes lay eggs in five districts of Wagmati Province, said Deepak Subedi, head of public health promotion branch of the metropolis.

In a study conducted in 547 houses of Ratnanagar municipality in Chitwan, larvae of Aedes causing dengue were found in 133 houses. Larvae were found in 77 of the 753 drums found in these houses. "Aedes larvae were found in 29 out of 164 water tanks, 12 out of 120 jars, 12 out of 200 buckets, 4 out of 74 pots," said Keshav Bhatt, public health officer of the metropolis.

Similarly, Bhatt informed that the larvae of Aedes mosquitoes that spread dengue were found in 17 of the 92 tires and 19 of the other 202 waste items that were frozen in water. Larvae were found in the most waterlogged drums. In terms of percentage, the most larvae were found in tires, said Bhatt.

That's why it can be fatal to mix the tires with frozen water, he said. Even if five ml of water is frozen, the eddies will lay eggs in it . Therefore clean water should not be allowed to freeze for more than three/four days . Those who live in Gamala, Kular houses should take care of this,' is Bhatt's appeal. Dengue infection caused by

virus causes high fever and bone pain. Dengue infection occurs when a person is bitten by an Aedes mosquito infected with the virus. As many as 80 percent do not have any symptoms of dengue. Of the remaining 20 percent, only half may have serious problems. For this, treatment should be done early, said Bhatt.

According to Deepak Subedi, Head of Public Health Promotion Branch, Dengue infection starts to increase with the onset of monsoon. According to Subedi, dengue was first seen in Nepal in 2004. Subedi informed that a foreigner who was treated in Chitwan was diagnosed with dengue at that time. Then Degi was released in Chitwan in 2006. In 2010, dengue became an epidemic in Chitwan and Rupandehi.

Dengue has been causing pain in Chitwan for most of the three years. Subedi said that dengue had spread to all 77 districts of the country till last year. In 2023, 51 thousand 243 people were infected with dengue and 20 of them died, said Bhatt, public health officer of Bharatpur metropolis. Last year, there were 16 districts with more than 500 infections.

In Chitwan, from July of last year to this June 15, 1,268 people, 665 men and 633 women, have been infected. Out of which there are 663 people in Bharatpur Metropolitan City. Bhatt says that since 54 people have been infected in Ichchakamana Rural Municipality in the hilly part of the district, it is necessary to be vigilant in all areas. In the last 24 hours, 11 people have been infected in Ishkamana.

There is a high risk of dengue from June to November. "In order to control dengue, a person should be aware of himself. We had to remove the small vessels that collect water . Such work should be done by local municipalities and concerned organizations in their own homes and in public places," said Subedi, head of public health promotion branch. He said that spraying pesticides to kill mosquitoes is not effective in dengue control.
