On this day (April 10) in 1986, Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto returned home from exile. After martial law was lifted in Pakistan in December 1985, Benazir returned to Pakistan from Britain in April 1986.

Born on June 21, 1953 in Karachi, Pakistan, Benazir is the only female Prime Minister of Pakistan. She was the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1988 to 1990 and from 1993 to 1996.

After her party, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), was defeated in the 1997 elections, Benazir again went into self-imposed exile. After living in exile in London and Dubai for about ten years, Benazir returned to Sweden to prepare for the 2008 elections. Benazir was assassinated on December 27, 2007.
