4 directors were appointed in the Medical Education Commission on Monday. Based on the recommendations made by the recommendation committee, Dr. Guru Prasad Khanal, Prof.Dr. Sujanbabu Marhatta, Prof. Dr. Sudeep Acharya and Prof.Dr. Krishna Prasad Kapri, member secretary of the Commission, said that Sarla Shrestha was appointed as the director.
There is a provision in the Commission to have the Directorate of Standards and Accreditation, Planning, Coordination and Academic Upgrading, Examination and National Board of Medical Specialties. According to the commission, Khanal has been given the responsibility of the National Board, Marhatta for planning, Acharya for standards and Shrestha for the Directorate of Examinations. According to the provisions of the Medical Education Act, the director was appointed by the vice-chairman of the commission, Anjani Kumar Jha, based on the recommendation made by the recommendation committee.
The director post was vacant in the Commission for 9 months. The government appointed a member of the National Planning Commission on November 23 for the appointment of the director. A 3-member recommendation committee was formed under the coordination of Ramkumar Phuyal. In the advertisement made by the recommendation committee, 20 people applied for the competition to become a director. Among them, only 12 names were shortlisted.
