Four borders, including Kakrahawa in Rupandehi, which is connected to Siddharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, India, have been closed for 72 hours. The Kakrahawa crossing in the Lumbini Cultural Municipality has been closed since Wednesday, aiming for the Lok Sabha elections to be held in the Siddharthnagar district on 12th June.

Along with the Kakrahawa crossing, Thothari, Hadwadwa and Charaini crossings of Rupandehi, which are connected to India's Siddharthnagar district, have been closed. Other crossings are normal crossings for people, while Kakrahawa is a major crossing for vehicles.

District Police Office Rupandehi DSP and Information Officer Manohar Prasad Bhatt said that the checkpoint was closed according to the decision made by the security officers of the border districts in order to prevent any unwanted activities during the elections to India. Kakrahawa crossing will be closed till 12 midnight on the 12th of June.

Similarly, the Sunauli/Belhia crossing will be closed from 12 midnight on June 16 for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh, India.

District Administration Office Rupandehi has issued a notification saying that the Kakrahwa border will be closed from 9th June at 12:00 pm to 12:00 pm on 12th June and the Sunauli/Belhia checkpoint will be closed from 16th June to 72 hours. Chiranjeevi Rana said that due to the fact that elections will be held in two districts of India on different dates, only the border crossings connected with those districts will be closed.
