India's 16th Lok Sabha election was held from April 7 to May 12, 2014, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning the majority, paving the way for Modi to become Prime Minister. Since then, Modi has been the Prime Minister of India continuously.

Out of 543 seats to be elected in Lok Sabha, BJP won 282 seats. BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 336 seats. The opposition Indian National Congress won only 44 seats. Congress-led United Progressive Alliance won 59 seats.

Modi, who was born on September 17, 1950, is seeking another term through the current elections in India. Elections in India 2024 started on April 19 and will end on June 1. Before becoming the Prime Minister, Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014.
