Safe storage service of grain produced by farmers has started in Parsa. Nepal Warehousing Company Limited has started the storage service in Parsa's Plant Guthi from Friday. Company president Anand Bagaria said that the company has already built grain storage houses in Gadhi in Sunsari and Birpur in Kapilvastu along with Parsa.
He says that the total capacity of the three storage houses is 55 thousand metric tons. "We have constructed and put into operation the warehouse with the highest capacity in Parsa," he said. According to Samirraj Satyal, general manager of
company, all types of grains including wheat, corn and soybeans can be stored in these warehouses. He said that all the food industry, traders, farmers can take the service of these storage houses. Loans can also be taken by pledging the grain stored in the warehouse. The company expects that this facility will free farmers from having to sell their produce at merchant prices.
General Manager Satyal said that the relevance of safe storage house is high in the context of frequent reports that farmers are forced to sell their produce at the low price set by traders and that rotting vegetables and fruits are eaten by livestock. Can be sold at any time. Farmers who do not have their own storage infrastructure will benefit a lot from this,' he said. Farmers will also benefit from this. Satyal said that the company provides services such as processing of agricultural products using high technology, arrangements for taking loans from financial institutions on stored product collateral, providing seeds, fertilizers, medicines, and tools for farmers.
In the current situation where the world's attention is being focused on food security, the relevance of the storage house has increased even more, said Jagdish Prasad Agarwal, the company's investor and chairman of Nimbus Group. Since the government is fixing the minimum support price of food grains, he also said that the warehouses prepared by the private sector should be used for the purchased food stocks.
He also made it clear that the structures prepared by the private sector are more frugal than the government investing in such storage. Saying that up to 30 percent of grain is wasted in post-harvest, he said that such infrastructures will be effective to save the wasted grain and this can make food production competitive.
