Thousands of animals are sacrificed in Rajdevi on the day of Buddha Jayanti

After the celebration of the fair and the completion of vows, thousands of pilgrims from various districts of Madhesh region including Sirha, Saptari, Udaipur, Dhanusha and Vihar of India have crowded into the temple to sacrifice animals and birds.

In the Rajdevi temple located in a forest spread over an area of ​​3 bighas, 9 km north of Lahan Bazar, devotees have sacrificed thousands of goats, ducks, ducks, pigeons and chickens on the full moon day of Baisakh full moon.

It is customary for men to sacrifice goats and women to sacrifice in the temple. This temple is considered to be the second sacrificial place after Gadhimai temple. Coincidentally, Buddha Jayanti and Baisakh full moon, which are celebrated all over the country with a message of peace, fall on the same day.

Even though it is known that Katmar should not be performed on the day of Buddha Jayanti, the Mela Committee says that since Rajadevi Mata takes sacrifices only on that day, there is an obligation to perform sacrifices on the same day.

According to locals, there was once a dense forest in the area where the temple now stands. There is a mythological legend that there is a tradition of offering sacrifices here on the day of Punirma, when the wild animals started causing trouble in the surrounding areas.
