Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha has said that the government is working to bring back the Nepalis who were captured in Ukraine by joining the Russian army. While answering the questions raised by the parliamentarians in the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, Foreign Minister Shrestha said that the government has increased its efforts to bring back to Nepal those who are in the Russian army and who were taken prisoner in Ukraine.
Shrestha said that after taking charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he talked with the Russian Foreign Minister and discussed with the Russian Ambassador to Nepal several times.
'About the prisoners of war held in Ukraine, this ministry has already published the names . Only yesterday, the names and photos of five people who were imprisoned in Ukraine while serving in the Russian army have been made public," he said. "This has become possible after the continuous diplomatic efforts of the Nepalese government. The Ministry is working with high priority to return them to Nepal as soon as possible.'
Shrestha informed that the Russian government has agreed to compensate the families of Nepalese who joined the army there and is ready to send back the Nepalese who are still working there. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia has informed that it has agreed in principle to cancel the contract among the Nepalis who have joined the Russian army and want to return home. Its modality is yet to be decided. The Nepali Embassy in Russia is constantly following up on this, Shrestha said.
In the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Shrestha said that the government is ready and working to solve the problems of Nepalis who are in the army on the side of Russia.
