Prime Minister Dahal called an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers

"The Prime Minister has called a cabinet meeting today at 5 pm to discuss the report of the investigation commission on gold smuggling and other current issues," a member of the secretariat told Ikantipur. The secretariat also said that the Prime Minister will hold a briefing with the departmental ministers after the Cabinet is completed.

This morning, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane submitted the report of the Commission of Inquiry on the control of illegal importation (smuggling) of gold to the Prime Minister. While understanding the report, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, without being pressured or influenced by anyone, to guarantee the implementation of the report according to the process, to ensure that no one is acquitted and no one is innocent. He also instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and the Home Minister to immediately proceed with the reforms pointed out in the report. Following the instructions of the Prime Minister, Minister Lamichhane has started an internal consultation on the implementation of the report.

The commission submitted a report to Home Minister Lamichhane on Thursday . The Commission has recommended departmental action against Nepal Police's Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) chief Kiran Bajracharya and the then director general of the immigration department Jhalakram Adhikari.

Action has been recommended against AIG Bajracharya for giving immunity to former Home Minister and Maoist Vice President Krishna Bahadur Mahara, then Director General of Immigration Department and former Inspector General of Police and UML leader Sarbendra Khanal. Former IGP Khanal was a candidate from UML in the elections held in Tanahun, the constituency of President Ramchandra Paudel.

A commission of inquiry was formed under the leadership of former judge Dilliraj Acharya after the then opposition UML and RSVP blocked the parliament for a month last July demanding to break the net of powerful officials of political, administrative and security bodies in gold smuggling. But the commission has questioned the police for not taking action against Maoist and UML leaders in gold smuggling.
