About 43.7 percent of the various free vaccines administered annually by the Ministry of Health and Population have been wasted. According to the 61st annual report of the Auditor General, it has been found that vaccines worth about 2.23 billion 821 thousand rupees given under the Department of Health Services were wasted due to lack of frugal and systematic planning.
According to the Auditor General's report, the Department of Health Services has not made a vaccination plan after studying and analyzing the purchase, storage, transportation, use and distribution of vaccines, the overall status of vaccines, the number of vaccines to be received from donors and the need for vaccines in the coming year.
It is mentioned in the Auditor General's report that the vaccination program has not been planned according to the vaccination standards in order to conduct it economically and systematically.
In addition, due to the carelessness and misbehavior of the health service department, 20 million vials of vaccine worth 1.56 billion 68 million, received as a subsidy from the Chinese government, were also wasted, according to the report. According to the report, most of the BCG vaccine was wasted.
79.4 percent of the BCG vaccine worth about 670 million rupees has been wasted. After that, the first and second measles vaccine worth about 72 crore rupees was wasted, while the polio vaccine worth about 15 crore rupees was wasted.
