About 12 billion has been spent on the construction of the Sunkosi Marine Diversion Multipurpose Project. 11 billion 91 million 19 million has been spent on the construction of the project. The total cost of the project is 49.42 billion 31 million.
According to the project, this amount has been spent on tunnel construction, headworks work on Sunkosi river, social work and house and land acquisition.
Progress towards physical work is 26.38 percent and financial is 24.10 percent. On February 20, 2007, the foundation stone was laid at Kasumtar of Kamalamai Municipality-2 and the construction of the project was started. A year and a half later, the construction of the tunnel started on October 28, 1979. 80 percent of the tunnel construction work has been completed, while the Sunkosi dam construction work towards the headworks has started this year.
Mitra Baral, the head of the project, said that 2.8 billion was initially allocated, but it was not enough and an additional 1.9 billion was received from the government. It is seen that 11 billion will be spent according to the work out of the 4 billion 395 million allocated by the government this year.
