The International Welfare and Support Foundation of America has distributed the living allowance to the senior citizens, disabled and helpless in the refugee camps of Beldangi in Jhapa and Pathari in Morang.
Dilli Adhikari, president of the foundation, gave monthly allowance to 157 people of Beldangi camp and 57 people of Pathri camp. The amount was distributed on Wednesday for livelihood and nutritious food at the rate of five thousand.
The presiding officer has been providing that amount monthly to the senior citizens, helpless and disabled people of the camp since the past . With the approval of the government of Nepal, this program has been ongoing for the past years with the aim of providing some support to these citizens who are living a difficult life in the refugee camp. The foundation has been providing the allowance to those citizens who receive the funds by opening an account in the local bank through the same bank account.
In a program held at Beldangi camp in Jhapa on Wednesday, the president of the foundation said that under the rehabilitation program, they are helping those who are left stranded in the camp even if it is a little. He also urged the Nepalese government to think seriously about repatriation of the Nepali speakers in the camps, resettling them in third countries or providing them with the opportunity to live as Nepalis in Nepal. In these two camps, about eight thousand Nepali-speaking people who were forced to become refugees in Nepal after being unfairly expelled from the neighboring country Bhutan live. The foundation has also arranged a 'day care' for the disabled and helpless in those camps. Likewise, 22 teachers have been provided for English, science, and mathematics subjects for local schools so that proper education can be available for children. With the help of
foundation, a health post is being built at Pathri camp, while consultation with the local camp management committee has started for the construction of a health post at Beldangi camp. Similarly, the foundation has agreed with the municipality to provide one ambulance each for these two camps.
At that time, after the refugees of the camp complained that there was a problem due to the suspension of ID card renewal and birth death and marriage registration, the president of the foundation met with the Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Kedar Karki, and asked for an immediate solution to the problem.
