Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is under the control of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges of corruption by introducing liquor policy, has been ordered by the court to keep him in custody for four more days. After the earlier deadline of 6 days was over, ED submitted to Avenue Court on Thursday requesting more time to investigate Kejriwal. The ED asked for seven more days, but the court extended the time by only four days. The order says to submit it to the court by 12 noon on Monday.
In the court, Kejriwal spoke on his own behalf. He claimed that the ED's action was only aimed at defaming the Aam Aadmi Party. He alleged that businessman Sharad Reddy, who was arrested in this case, had donated Rs 55 crore to the BJP and alleged corruption after the ED started action. He argued that it was not appropriate to arrest a person holding the post of Chief Minister on the basis of the general statements of the four accused. Kejriwal was arrested by ED last week. Although he was arrested, he did not resign from the post of Chief Minister. He has been saying that he will run the government from prison.
On Thursday, the High Court rejected a petition to release Kejriwal from the post of Chief Minister as he is in jail. The High Court did not want to hear the matter saying that there is no such rule and law. The court has said that there is no place for judicial intervention.
