The Special Court has convicted Sunil Paudel, the then Executive Director of National Information Technology Center and Managing Director of Nepal Telecom, in the National Payment Gateway corruption case. In this case, the court cleared 8 people including secretary Madhukumar Marasani.

Special court chairman Teknarayan Kunwar and member Murari Babu Shrestha found Paudel guilty. Yagyaraj Regmi, information officer of the special court, said that the date set for Paudel's punishment has been fixed on 25th of Baisakh.

The National Payment Gateway purchased 6 years ago with the connivance and planning of the then Executive Director of the National Information Technology Center has not yet been used. Based on the complaint, the authority filed a case on October 15 last year.

Sanjay Sharma, secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology and then chairman of the National Information Technology Center, Pranita Upadhyay, the then executive director of the National Information Technology Center, Safal Shrestha, the then director and now deputy director of the National Information Technology Center, then the Budget and Program Division of the Ministry of Finance were acquitted by the court. Head of Division and the current Secretary Madhukumar Marasini, the then Assistant Director of the National Information Technology Center Ramesh Prasad Pokharel alias Ramesh Pokharel, the then Accounts Officer of the National Information Technology Center Nim Bahadur Wali, the then Accounts Officer of the National Information Technology Center Ram Bahadur Budha, the computer engineer of the National Information Technology Center Ram Sharan Gaik are . 23 crore 27 lakh 58 thousand 77 rupees was claimed in the

case. For the purchase of consulting services, the defendant Sunil Paudel, as the executive director of the center, entered into a contract for the purchase of consulting services with CMA Small System AB. After that, after purchasing consulting services, the defendant, as the head of the organization, ordered to pay 230,275,8077 rupees. It did not seem to be in operation. Therefore, the defendant negligently fulfilled the duties of his position and the consulting services and software purchased at the said price were not put into operation and remained in a state of non-use.

Based on these grounds and reasons and evidence, the court held that the defendant Sunil Poudel has committed an offense under Section 17 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 2059.
