The Nepalese working in Okayama, Japan have provided food for the students studying at Kandeshwari Basic School in Lothar Kanda, Rapti Municipality-13, a hilly village of Chitwan.

Balkrishna Thapalia, the principal of the school, said that only 145 students from the Chepang community study in the school, which has started teaching in class eight from this year.

They all live in the 'Kumar Balram Smriti Hostel' built near the school. The hostel is run by an organization called Lakshmi Pratishthan. The foundation has run the hostel with the help of Nepalese working in the country and abroad.

Murali Prasad Gajurel, a social worker from Chitwan, said that he donated rice to the hostel that has been running for free for Chepang children for a long time. President Prem Acharya of Okoya Nepali Society on Friday handed over 70 sacks of rice to the hostel that was purchased from the funds raised by the organization.

A sack holds 30 kg of rice. Kanda village, where the Chepang community lives, does not even have basic infrastructure such as roads and electricity. After getting off the jeep and walking up and down the mountain road for at least four hours, you will reach Kanda.

Prem Acharya, President of Nepali Society in Okoya, announced to provide 30 more sacks of rice on his behalf after seeing the condition of hostels, schools and villages. Referring to his son Sumit's birthday, he said that more food will be given to the students. Acharya informed that the Nepali society in Okoya has been supporting Chepang-dominated hill villages in Chitwan with food and other things.
