Lamjung Police has arrested a young man from Madhya Nepal Municipality 3 Suryapal on the charge of cultivation of drug opium.
The police arrested 26-year-old Himal Lama Thing, who lives in Makwanpur Raksirang Rural Municipality 8 and has been looking after the farm of Bishnu Subedi of Suryapal for 1 year. DSP Min Bahadur Ghale, Chief of the District Police Office, said that narcotics (opium) were cultivated on the land of approximately 3 ropani area, and 107.4 grams of opium powder collected from opium, knives and bowls used in extracting the opium were also seized.
The police held a press conference at the district police office in Bensi Sahar and released the items recovered from the youth on Tuesday. Police Inspector Thaneshwar Chapai, information officer of the district police office, said that 14,566 opium plants were also found in the place where opium was cultivated and the plants were uprooted and brought to the police office.
According to the police, the young man was arrested on Sunday and brought to the district police office. Police inspector Meghnath Chapagain said that the investigation work is going on with the extension of 7 days from the District Court Lamjung on Monday.
DSP Ghale said that the process of action against the young man for the offense of cultivating, producing, storing and dealing in opium, according to the Narcotics Control Act 2033, has started.
