The Communist Party of Nepal, a component of Samajwadi Morcha, has requested the ruling coalition to release its workers who are in jail on various charges and return the case. Secretary General Netra Vikram Chand made this request after meeting Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML President KP Sharma Oli.

CPN's request to initiate the release of activists in prison

He has asked Dahal to meet Baluwatar on Friday and Oli on Thursday in Balkot to withdraw the case and release the workers.

'According to the agreement reached during the previous government, we have requested to withdraw the case and release the friends,' Chand said, 'They are positive.' It is mentioned that those who have been imprisoned will be released according to the agreement between the government and the protestors in accordance with the law.

About three dozen people of CPN and revolutionary (Maoist) are still in jail.

Even though the government registered the 'Bill to amend some Nepal Acts' in Parliament in 080 Baisakh so that the cases against the leaders and workers of parties such as CPN, Civil Liberation and other parties can be withdrawn, it has not progressed. Section 116 (a) of the Bill states that the case can be withdrawn to bring peaceful politics into the mainstream.

CPN 080, led by Chand, participated in the Maoist, Janata Samajwadi and Unified Samajwadi fronts. The 14-point commitment of the front mentions withdrawal of political cases and release of arrest warrants. Taking necessary legal and political initiatives for the dismissal of the cases against the leaders/activists of various parties due to the agitations of various periods in the past and for the release of Rajbandis. Implementation of agreements and agreements with various political parties,'' he made a commitment.

The ban on the party's activities was lifted after the KP Sharma Oli-led government and the CPN reached a three-point agreement on February 21, 2077. Since then, CPN has been doing peaceful politics. NCP has agreed to conduct all its political activities peacefully. The government of Nepal has agreed to remove the ban imposed on the CPN, release the jailed party leaders and activists and dismiss the entire case," the agreement stated.

About 2,100 leaders-activists were arrested before the three-way agreement, 140 were jailed in the interim. Most of them have been released on bail and dates, while about three dozen are yet to be released. After separating from the Maoists in June 2069, leaders including Chand took the strategy of public uprising under the leadership of Mohan Vaidya. He separated from Chand Vaidya in November 2071 with the conclusion that there could not be a public riot and after some time he also engaged in violent activities .

The government banned CPN led by Chand from February 28, 2075. After that, leaders including Chand went underground. Due to the violent activities of Chand group, 6 people including policemen, teachers, civilians and 12 workers of Chand group died. It is mentioned in the police report that he blew up bombs at 119 places and set fire to 257 places.
