Former Chief Secretary Tirthaman Shakya was cremated with state honours. Sakya, who died last Wednesday at B&B Hospital in Gwarko, was cremated at Aryaghat in Shankhamul at 1.30 pm on Friday according to Buddhist tradition.
His eldest son Mahendra Shakya lit a lamp on his body. On the same occasion, Chiribabu Maharjan, head of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality, reached Aryaghat and offered his respects with a bouquet of flowers. Also, a unit of Nepal Police saluted with Garat Samman.
Chief of Public Service Commission Madhav Prasad Regmi, members of the commission, former chairman Dinesh Chandra Thaplia, member of the Constituent Assembly Madan Bahadur Amatya, member of the Wagmati State Assembly Ramkrishna Chitar, Chief District Officer of Lalitpur Tulsi Bahadur Shrestha, Chief of District Police Senior Superintendent of Police Shekhar Khanal, personalities including special rank officers of the Government of Nepal. Locals also participated.
Shakya, who is also the president of Nepal Law Society, was suffering from a cancer-related illness. Former Chairman of Public Service Commission Shakya passed away at the age of 81. He returned home after a health check-up in Delhi, India, only one and a half months ago. He was involved in the drafting of the laws of Nepal and was also the secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Swa Sakya has two sons and two daughters. His wife passed away only about three months ago.
