After Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post and left the country, Army Chief General Waqer-Uz-Zaman has announced that an interim government will be formed with the participation of all parties.

After fruitful discussions with all political parties, we have decided to form an interim government. We will now talk to President Mohammad Shahbuddin so that the situation can be resolved," he said.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, he has called for an end to all violence in the name of the movement and promised to ensure justice for all the deaths that occurred during the anti-discrimination student movement by the new government.

Professor Asif Nazrul of Dhaka University's Law Department has issued a statement asking the students to withdraw their protest.

General Walker said Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post and left the country.

He said that no Awami League member was present in the meeting with the political party at the army headquarters.
