The Karnali Pradesh Sports Council has handed over the completed Kalungchok Cricket Ground to the Karnali Pradesh Cricket Association. In the second anniversary program of the association, the member secretary of the council, Bishwamitra Sanjyal, gave the letter of transfer of the field to the state president and CAN treasurer, Padma Bahadur Khadka.
A 65-yard cricket ground with three pitches, three prefab houses, a mobile toilet with a water tank have been handed over in Kalungchowk. The Chief Minister's Cup cricket tournament has been organized on this ground from June 8 to 14. Provincial President Khadka said that despite the lack of stadiums, cricket is developing and expanding in Karnali and said that now there will be no problem in organizing big tournaments. He pointed out that since two cricket stadiums have been prepared in the provincial capital Birendranagar, it is the responsibility of cricket lovers to protect and maintain them.
It was informed that the center has allocated 5 lakh rupees for the conservation of the cricket stadium. 'The 10th National Games are being held in Karnali province in the near future,' he said, 'for that, the association has allocated the necessary funds for the maintenance and protection of the cricket ground.' He said that it was decided to give an additional one lakh for the activity project. He said that in the first phase, women cricketers promotion program is going to be conducted in 10 districts of Nepal. Dailekh and Salyan have been selected from Karnali in those 10 districts.
Chairman Khadka said that Karnali got the opportunity to participate in Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket for the first time. "In the past there were seven teams, Wagmati was represented by Chitwan, Kathmandu had a separate team," he said, "Now Karnali will participate in the NPL with its own identity."
Karnali Sports Council Member-Secretary Sanjyal said that along with the construction of the cricket stadium, attention should now be paid to the production of players. He said that the association should pay attention to the growing popularity of cricket.
