On the occasion of the Barka Atwari festival of the Tharu community, the Lumbini State government has declared a public holiday in Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi and West Nawalparasi districts of Lumbini State where there are many Tharu communities.

The Tharu community has been considering the sun as a symbol of light. According to mythology, there is a tradition of celebrating Atwari festival by worshiping Bhima. This festival is celebrated on the first Sunday after Kushe Aunsi. It is believed that this festival is named Atwari as it is celebrated on Sunday.

Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Chetnarayan Acharya said that Barka Atwari celebrated by the Tharu community is a special religious and cultural festival. Expressing good wishes on the occasion of Barka Atwari festival, Chief Minister Acharya said that this festival plays an important role in preserving the religion, culture and tradition of the Tharu community.

Barka Atwari festival is very important in the Tharu community. This festival is celebrated on the first Sunday after Kushe Aunsi. As it is celebrated on Sunday, it is believed that this festival was named Atwari. Also called Sunday . Ravi means Sun . Sun is also a symbol of fire . The nature-worshipping Tharu community has a tradition of celebrating the Barka Atwari festival with much fanfare, especially by worshiping and worshiping the sun. This festival has been playing an important role in preserving the religion, culture, and tradition of the Tharu community.

Chief Minister Acharya said that Lumbini State Government is committed to the preservation, enhancement and promotion of their original, religious and cultural traditions celebrated by all castes and communities living in the state.
