Siddharthnagar Municipality has prepared a standard to manage auto tempo and e-rickshaws in Bhairahawa area without registration and uncontrolled manner.

Janak Thapa, Chief Administrative Officer of Siddharthnagar Municipality, said that the standard was formulated after the conclusion of the all-party meeting including representatives of auto tempo and e-rickshaw-related professional organizations, municipality, local administration, traffic police, armed police, Nepal Police and other stakeholders. According to him, according to the standards, only 500 auto tempos and e-rickshaws will be registered and allowed to operate commercially in Siddharthnagar area. Similarly, blue-book, driver's license and insurance will be mandatory for the concerned businessmen to be registered in the municipality. Non-Nepali citizens and unregistered auto-tempo and e-rickshaw operation will be banned.

Preparations have been made for the amendment and modification of this procedure made in 2078, said Chief Administrative Officer Thapa - The number of rickshaws is only 184. However, it is estimated that there are more than 1,500 operating in the urban area. As there are many auto tempo and e-Rexas operated by unregistered and non-Nepali businessmen, they are disorganized and the businessmen have been demanding to organize them.

Apart from the main road, there are other criteria such as operating on edge service lanes and inner city roads, obtaining a route permit, taking a fixed rental with passengers, parking only in designated places, and putting a sign registered in the municipality on the front of the vehicle. Thapa said that the roads within the city will be registered and operated only on the basis of the capacity, needs and justifications of the local residents.
