Baglung municipality has started a campaign to collect three levels of waste and 'Zero Waste' i.e. proper utilization of all waste. For a decade and a half, the municipality had been dumping garbage in Khurtuke near Kaligandaki and Kathekhola. After running this campaign, the municipality has cleared the dumping site by burying all the previous waste in the soil.

Three sections are being made at the said place to manage hazardous waste including corrosive, non-corrosive and lead. Mayor Basant Kumar Shrestha said that the municipality has spent 1 crore rupees in the current year and brought the project into operation.

From that amount, structures for waste management will be constructed and managed. After that, the management of composting the decaying waste, collecting and selling the non-decomposing waste has been arranged . Mayor Shrestha also said that the aim is to bring in a machine of Korean technology that will reduce hospital waste and lead to zero.

'Every house will be given 3 buckets, perishable, non-perishable and lead-related items will be collected in them,' said Shrestha, 'Every day, three types of waste will be collected and managed separately by the municipality.' , like the blue and green bucket, the garbage collection vehicle is also going to be made in three colors .

Locals were suffering when the stench was spread by the roadside dumping . Now after the daily waste management, the dumping site will be odorless. Since the stench will be reduced if it is protected from water, the municipality is preparing to slope the ground and cover it with zinc sheet at all the three waste collection points.

Since 2054, Baglung municipality had dumped garbage on the banks of Kaligand for a decade. Garbage bins that were being dumped at a place called Khurturke of Ward 1 have also been cleared. By throwing the rotting and non-rotting garbage in one place, 10 ropani land was filled here . Decomposable waste is made into compost and non-decomposable plastic material is sent for recycling and other waste is burnt by the method of making ash at most 3%.

The municipality has also made a preliminary agreement with the "ALK ICO" company under the Department of Environment of Korea. It is said that burning garbage in the machine consumes only 20 to 30 units of electricity per month and is smoke-free. When the company sells waste management machines to the municipality, it will provide free service for 3 years and send a technician to Korea to train the machine.

For some time, Korean technicians will come to the field and give training on how to operate the machine. According to the representative of the company, a machine that burns 1 ton of plastic products per day costs 60 lakhs and a machine that burns up to 3 tons of waste per month costs up to 1 crore 17 lakhs. The municipality also has a plan to make a green park after placing soil on top of the currently piled garbage. Haridatta Kandel, the chief administrative officer of the municipality, said that there was no stench after that.
