28 laborers from Sirha and Dhanusha, who were held hostage for 5 months in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, have been rescued. 21 male laborers from Siraha and 7 male laborers from Dhanusha were rescued from India and brought to Nepal on Friday.


The team led by Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai, who went to India for rescue, returned them to Nepal on Friday. They have been handed over to the Human Trafficking Control Committee of both districts today.

According to the District Administration Office, Siraha, they had not been in contact with their families for five months, who came to India for employment through intermediaries. Based on the information of relatives and victim workers, they were rescued as soon as the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens showed vigilance for rescue.

The Human Trafficking Control Committee will now hand over the workers to their families . Rabindra Kumar Mahat, Branch Officer of District Administration Office, Siraha, said that an investigation will be conducted on how and who sent them. "We will hand them over to their families today," he told Kantipur, "After that, an investigation will be started, and legal action will be taken against those involved in the investigation."
